WhatsApp is perhaps the most popular short message application in the world, with around 64 million short messages sent every day. Most WhatsApp users install WhatsApp on the phone. But not everyone chooses to use the short message application on cell phones because of its size, or because they want to be more practical by bringing just one gadget that is their Mac computer.
The question is, is it possible to open the WhatsApp application on a Mac? If possible, how? Apparently, there are many ways you can choose to use WhatsApp on Mac. Previously, you couldn’t send or receive WhatsApp messages on a computer, but on May 10, 2016 WhatsApp introduced its desktop application.
This article will explain how to access, send and receive WhatsApp messages on your Mac, including through third-party applications.
Three Ways to Access WhatsApp on Mac
1. WhatsApp Web
This is a longer way to open WhatsApp on a Mac. Around January 2015, there is a version of WhatsApp for PC and Mac users that allows users to open it from any device and access their messages. This version is called WhatsApp Web.
WhatsApp Web is supported by Google Chrome, Opera and Firefox, but it is not fully supported by Safari. If you open WhatsApp Web in Safari, you will lose some features.
By opening WhatsApp Web in Chrome, Opera, or FireFox, you can log in using the QR code and access all conversations on your mobile. In addition, you can send and receive media, participate in group conversations, send and receive voice messages, and even receive notifications.
What can’t be found if WhatsApp Web is used in Safari is notification and voice message recording. But you can still listen to voice messages. Also keep in mind, your cellphone must be connected to the internet to send and receive messages from WhatsApp Web.
2. WhatsApp Application for Desktop
On May 10, 2016, WhatsApp first launched its desktop application. This application can be downloaded for free on their website. Of course, this desktop application is also as easy to setup as a mobile application.
After downloading the program and putting it in the application folder on your Mac, you will be given a unique QR code. After that open your cellphone, open WhatsApp, and click the three small circles in the upper right corner and select the WhatsApp Web menu.
Now you will have a QR code scanner in the WhatsApp application on your mobile and use it to scan the QR code on your Mac screen. After scanning, you will get all your WhatsApp contacts and conversations synchronized on your Mac.
3. Third Party Applications
In addition to ways offered directly by WhatsApp, there are also great third-party applications for Mac users. With this application, WhatsApp users on Mac can receive notifications, use a neat look, get regular updates. Everything can be used free of charge.
This application is called ChitChat, but you can’t find it on the Mac App Store. You can download it on GitHub.
How to use it is also easy. Just open the ChitChat page on GitHub and download the application. Once downloaded, you will find a menu to login using the QR code. After that, scan the QR code on the Mac with your smartphone and the two applications on your device will be synchronized.
After completing the above process, you can immediately use ChitChat to send and receive messages. Notifications will appear in your Mac’s notification center. The features offered by ChitChat are complete, but you cannot record voice messages.
